In defense of the poor image
What → In Defense of the Poor Image is an essay written by Hito Steryl. The poor image is one that has been reedited, downloaded, and shared many times. While poor in quality, it can reach a large group of people, and the users become editors, critics, translators, and co-authors of poor images.
How → Imagery used for this publication are well-known pop culture moments from the past seven decades. As one goes through the publication, the images appear to deteriorate and become more "poor", reflecting the theme of the essay. Using a scanner, pull quotes have been warped to fit the theme as well. Final piece was printed on 55 GSM improved newsprint.
